We went on an Autumn trip to St. Anne's Park. We had a lovely day. There were Autumn leaves falling from the trees and we saw some cute squirrels running around. We even had time for a trip to the playground and a picnic.
Today we went on an autumn walk🚶🏻♀️ We found lots of leaves, conkers and pine cones.
Both Senior Infant classes behaved so well this month, they were awarded a toast party. Look at all those happy faces 😃

Welcome to the Senior Infants page. Our teachers this year are Rosemary and Mary. We will update this page with pictures and news throughout the year.
Dear Senior Infants Parents and Guardians,
Rosemary and Mary here. We hope that you and your families had a lovely weekend and stayed safe. We cannot believe that this is our last full week in Senior Infants before our Summer holidays begin. We would like to begin our note this week by telling you all how PROUD we are of every single boy and girl in Senior Infants. They have shown us how BRAVE they are by being able to cope over the last few months and are capable with dealing with hard things because they know that soon things will start to get easier and we will all be able to see our friends again. BOYS AND GIRLS WE ARE SO VERY PROUD OF YOU ALL! We hope that you all received your last work pack of the year last Friday. In it we hope that you found your child's school report and school holidays for the new school year beginning end of August. This work pack is full of revision activities from all the different activities that we have covered this year so it is important that your child completes these. We want to say a very SPECIAL THANK YOU this week for helping your children every day with their learning since our school closure back in March! We appreciate that this has been quite difficult at times but want to let you know that the work you have done with your children will benefit them greatly when they enter first class! We hope that you and your child had lots of FUN engaging with the different activities and that it has proven to be a positive experience for both you and your child! Rosemary and Mary have enjoyed being the boys and girls teachers so much! It has been such a pleasure to teach every single one of them! You have been such a JOY to be around and always made us SMILE and LAUGH! We were so lucky to be your teachers! THANK YOU FOR BEING YOU! In the meantime if there is anything else that you need help or assistance with please do not hesitate to contact the school by phone or email [email protected]. HAVE AN AMAZING SUMMER, YOU ALL DESERVE IT! We wish you the best of luck in 1st class! You have been the best class! Wash your hands and stay safe :-) HAPPY SUMMER! PE
This is our favourite activity to do during the day. It is so important that all the boys and girls are staying active during this time whether it is exercising indoors or outdoors, the most important thing is to keep moving! Here are some links to different ideas for exercise time! |
Maths
Over the next two weeks we would like the boys and girls to learn about time. ( learning the months of the year, days of the week, sequencing their day, telling the time on the clock one hour intervals only.
Here are a number of activities you can do with your child. Do not feel under pressure to complete all as this is just a guide to support you!
1. Play. Play the game What time is it Mr Wolf. ( 1 person is Mr wolf, the rest stand against the opposite wall. Mr Wolf turns around so he cannot see the children. The children chant "What time is it Mr Wolf?" If Mr Wolf says 4 oclock the children can move 4 spaces, 2 oclock two spaces and so forth. If Mr wolf says its dinner time then he has to run and catch all the children.
2. Sequencing Break up your day into morning, afternoon evening, night. Discuss with your child the things you do during the day and when you do them. For example When do we eat our breakfast? When do we go to bed? When do we eat dinner. You could even make a visual timetable of your day to help your child to understand this concept.
3.Days of the week/ Seasons of the year. List all the days of the week out together and help your child to remember them in the correct order. Every morning ask questions such as What day is it today? What day was it yesterday? What day will it be tomorrow? Other questions could include What is your favourite day of the week? What days are the weekend? What day of the week begins with M? W? What season is it now? What happens in Summer? What is the weather like in Winter? What happens trees in Autumn?
4. Telling the time. Allow your child to search your house at home for any clocks they can find. Examine the clock together count the different numbers you see. Explain to the child that there are two hands on a clock 1 long 1 short. Show the child how the smaller hand moves around the clock slowly, by pointing at the different times and saying 1 oclock 2 oclock etc. A great activity could be to make your own clock at home using a paper plate.
4. Worksheets. Have a look in your work pack for some activities related to time to complete with your child or Download and print some capacity worksheets in our maths folder below. Keep scrolling down to find it.
More maths activities...
-Counting forwards to 40 and backwards from 20. Senior Infants are excellent at counting. They love playing a clapping game to count. You can clap a pattern and they have to guess the number of claps.
-Mental Maths Our boys and girls are fantastic at answering mental maths questions such as. What number comes before 9? What number comes after 11? What number is in between 5 and 7? What number is two more than 3? What number is one less than 8?
-Simple addition tasks. Number stories( If Emma has 5 apples and Alex has 4 oranges. How much fruit do they have altogether? etc
-Write numbers 1-10
-We have included lots of maths worksheets in our workpacks. You could choose to do one daily during your maths time
-Maths rhyme, some maths rhymes that our Senior Infants already know and could recite are - 1,2 Buckle My Shoe, 10 green bottles, 5 Little Ducks, 5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the bed.
-Rice Krispie Buns- Baking is a great opportunity to practice a bit of counting! Making something like Rice Krispie buns is a great way to help your child count..count out the bun cases, count how many chocolate squares go in, count how many spoons of rice krispies are added in and so on. Enjoy!
-Maths hunt at home. Set your child a task of counting different items in your house. Count how many ( rooms, presses, boxes, books, windows, doors) 3D shape hunt. ( How many circles, squares, rectangles, squares can they find?)

SPHE/ Mindfulness
It is very important that during this time, we take time to look after ourselves. When we are in school the boys and girls love to do yoga and some mindfulness activities throughout the week, usually at the end of a very busy day as a way to help children unwind and to pause and reflect. Here are some links to some mindfulness/yoga activities.
